When I bought my IC-7100 I also did some digital radio using D-Star. That system is not widely used here. I can acces one repeater from my home, did not use it mobile yet but guess I will not be able te access any repeater in the area I travel a lot by car.
A few fellow ham’s in the area are using DMR and there are a few DMR repeaters around so I decided to buy a Anytone AT-D868UV DMR handy.
One of the reasons I wanted this radio is that it is dual band so also usable for the analog VHF and UHF repeaters. It is a nice radio, well build, pleasant in the hand and feels pretty sturdy. Updated it to the newest firmware, not a difficult task to do. Put in a European codeplug that also has some analog frequency’s like PMR and LPD and started listening.
Well I am in vocoder / autotune heaven now… 😉 It is somewhat “not my cup off tea”, this digital sound… Guess I will get used to it over time but can’t say I find it pleasant to listen to.
On the other hand, I do not like FM either as it does not have that typical sound of SSB… 😛
